Who would be the audience for your media product?
Who watches teen films?
Teenagers generally tend to watch them, as they are made in order to appeal to them as an audience. However, many adults may also be attracted to them because of the nostalgic affect that it has on them. They may also watch them because of their interest in the lives of teens of their current generation, but they may end up with a warped perspective of them because of the stereotypes that most films choose to portray as opposed to what occurs in reality.
Who watches sport films
Our film has a sub genre of sport and people who tend to watch these films usually dabble in sports themselves, which allows them to empathise with the protagonist and engage in the storyline. This may also mean that they enjoy films that depict the protagonist going on a journey, as they themselves know what hard work and persistence results in. In addition to this, people who watch sports films may also enjoy the dramatic moments that are a constant feature in films of this genre. Moments like these include last minute goals or knockouts.
Who is our target audience?
Our target audience is males that enjoy football aged from 14-21. This is because the plot follows a teenage male protagonist who aspires to be a professional footballer in the future and we think that our film will be more effective in attracting people who are in a similar age group to our protagonist, as they can relate to him more. More specifically we want to really appeal to young people from London as they can relate to the youth culture that is portrayed in our film easily. For example, they will be able to understand the slang that features throughout. Conversely, this factor could also attract the attention of people who are not from London or that are older, as they may want to get an insight into what life is like for people that fit our protagonist's demographic. The sub genre of sport enables our film to appeal to a wider audience than what we specifically target, as football fanatics will be urged to watch it solely because of the aspect of football that is so heavily linked to our plot. We also aim to address people who are looking for an unbiased perspective of London youth as the riots of 2011 have given us somewhat of a bad reputation. We are able to do this because our opening contains both the good and bad sides of the youth of London as is the case with our protagonists and the muggers, which enables our audience to form their own view of them.
